There will be moments in your working life that it becomes clear to you that you need to get out of that place, career, or business. Internally caused by personal feelings or externally forced by management.

Indeed, you will experience stress, and there is a fair chance that you will have fear – fear of running out of money, not being able to provide to the people that matter, losing security, and fear of what other people might think of you. Suddenly you stop or are stopped from climbing that mountain of “making it” according to current society’s standards.

A few years ago, after stopping the venture, I had set up within a corporate organization. My manager ‘reassured’ me during another reorganization that they would create another position for me within the organization. When the list of discontinued positions was presented, I raised my hand. I made clear there was one position missing on the list -mine. I called home to tell my partner that I had just decided that I would leave the organization.

When I told this story at an event for people working in the pharmacy industry, one of the people present said it was easy for me because I was not afraid of taking risks. Now, that couldn’t be further from the true coming from a family working in insurance and led into working in a big organization with all possible securities. At that time, I was not used to taking risks at all.

I asked the attendee what the real risk is when you need to invest in yourself daily to stay relevant within the business you are running yourself. Knowing your true added value is, being called by people for what you do – not representing the organization you are working for, but being called for who you are. Depending on yourself instead of relying on an organization and becoming who you need to be in that organization.

It isn’t easy to get off the known track and pursue something different and unknown. But finding the space to work on your way out and explore, finding your real added value, taking on a new relevant and rewarding journey will eventually lead to the confidence you need to become genuinely successful. Most important, it will lower the risk of losing yourself during your (working)life.

Are you ready to take on that risk chance?

Starters Station offers you the space to explore and develop personally by (starting) your business. Take advantage of people with experience from doing and not guiding you to the success defined by others but to the success that defines you.

You’d expect me to write a very conquest-driven start-up story, but nope like most people, I was filled with doubts and fear. Let’s back this up, so you understand where I was coming from.

Climbing the second mountain

Climbing the second mountain

A couple of years ago, I consulted a life coach. I had just left my job as a retail company manager and needed some advice to find out what I wanted to do with my life. I really liked my job, though, but I always felt a lack of appreciation, because it wasn’t my own company.

Still, thinking about it?

We understand, here are some of our stories of what it was like for us to start up. Please feel free to get in touch with us by booking  a 15-minute call or leave us your details below, and we'll mail you back with more info.
